Po'Mo painting or "splash ink" is an ancient Chinese/Japanese technique where paint is poured
or splashed onto a gold or silver leafed "shikishi" board. (A shikishi board is a type of paper board covered with
gold or silver metallic, then covered with a sheer paper. The edges of the board are gold, as if it has a thin gold frame.)
Layers of colors are manipulated by tipping the board and/or using a brush, and then the paint is allowed to blend and bleed.
The painting is left to dry and then can be further developed if desired.
These are not traditional
Po'Mo paintings. I have used similar techniques, but left the bulk of them fairly abstract, choosing not to develop the
images that emerge. Instead, the majority of them are inspired by the beautiful colours of the sari (traditional South Asian
women's dress).
